Learning outcomes
Following are the learning outcomes: to understand how the tools and frameworks of strategic analysis can be applied to understand the evolution of value creation and capture in the FMCG industry; to analyze the core competencies of a company and understand their relevance in this fast-changing industry; to understand how to evaluate the pros and cons of a certain strategy and business model; and to develop strategic recommendations.
Case overview/synopsis
The case series traces the developments in China’s FMCG industry from the early 2010s to 2017, in general, and the efforts of Beijing WinChannel Software Technology Co., Ltd. (WinChannel) and its affiliated company, Huixiadan, in their attempt to apply new digital technologies to transform the traditional trade channel, in particular. The decision point of Case A, in early 2015, is how WinChannel can help improve the reach and efficiency of the traditional trade channel and wonders if the emerging online/mobile B2B FMCG platforms are the right solution for the increasingly digitized FMCG retail industry in China. The decision point of Case B, at the end of 2017, is how could Huixiadan’s business model be sustainable and what it should do to withstand the competitive threats even as it tries to exploit opportunities in the traditional FMCG industry in China.
Complexity academic level
It can be used with MBAs, EMBAs and senior executives.

Abstract
Purpose
This study aims to extend the prior literature on voice behavior by integrating leader secure-base support, psychological capital (PsyCap) and regulatory foci with promotive and prohibitive voices. The current research draws on the notions of the proactive motivation model and regulatory focus to provide insights into why and when the influences of PsyCap on a certain type of voice are determined by its relevant regulatory focus.
Design/methodology/approach
This study uses a sample of 278 supervisor–subordinate dyads from Taiwan hotels. Hypothesis tests were conducted using AMOS 21.0 and the SPSS application PROCESS (Hayes, 2013).
Findings
The current study determined that PsyCap mediated the positive relationships between leader secure-base support and two types of voices. Promotion focus moderated the relationships between PsyCap and promotive voice and the indirect effect of leader secure-base support on promotive voice. This indirect relationship is more pronounced when promotion focus is low than when it is high.
Research limitations/implications
This study has a few implications for future research. First, the use of PsyCap to explain the voice behavior of employees may extend the application of the proactive motivation model. Second, leader secure-base support should be viewed as a promising leadership behavior owing to its value as a PsyCap predictor. Third, results show that PsyCap can mediate the relationship between such support and two types of voices. Finally, incorporating the concept of ecological congruence provides improved insights into the role of regulatory foci.
Originality/value
First, this study extends the notions of the proactive motivation model by elucidating the effects of PsyCap on promotive and prohibitive voices. Second, our findings indicate that leader secure-base support can enhance PsyCap, which in turn facilitate voice behaviors in hotel work settings. Finally, his study contributes to theory of regulatory focus by integrating the notion of Hobfoll’s (1998) ecological congruence to explain how each of the promotion and prevention focus can determine the path from PsyCap to different types of voices.

Abstract
Purpose
Technological advancements have catalyzed disruption in the banking sector. The impact of the metaverse on the banking sector is no exception. In view of this, the current paper aims to provide valuable insights into four key areas (i.e. corporate banking, retail banking, banking employees and public policy) that the metaverse could significantly disrupt.
Design/methodology/approach
Insights into four key areas of the banking sector that the metaverse could significantly impact were gathered from various invited contributors.
Findings
The invited contributors first introduce the association between their respective key areas with the metaverse. Subsequently, the opportunities and challenges relevant to the key areas were identified. Finally, future research agendas were proposed for the attention of all relevant stakeholders.
Originality/value
The metaverse's impact on key areas of the banking sector is discussed in this paper. Following the metaverse's potentially wide application in the banking sector, insights from the invited contributions offer great value to the relevant stakeholders.

Abstract
Purpose
This research investigated the mechanism of wet friction plates of engagement and solved the problem that the lock-up friction coefficient of sinter material could not be obtained but from experiments for a long time. The paper aims to discuss these issues.
Design/methodology/approach
Including four steps: surface topology sampling and reconstruction, fractal parameters obtaining and fractal surface simulating, micro-contact mechanics model and friction coefficient fractal model, and experimental verification.
Findings
After running in stage of the friction plates, the fractal dimension would reach a dynamically stable stage for a long time. The proportional coefficient K expresses the correlation between the base hardness and the asperities shear strength. The model could be property for one or more working condition via adjusting the coefficient K. The experiment data of friction coefficient are increased as the load magnified both in the model prediction and experiment practice. The trend is different from other models.
Originality/value
This research is original and it is supported by national defense project. It would be served for tracked vehicles to solve the defect in transmission system. The friction coefficient is obtained via solving the tangential force in MB model. The surface topography could be reconstructed by laser topography instrument and the parameters could be received by program.

Abstract
Purpose
The purpose of this paper is to study the effects of ion‐slip current and Hall current on the formation of longitudinal vortices in natural convection flow over a heated horizontal plate.
Design/methodology/approach
The criterion on the position marking on the onset of longitudinal vortices is defined in the present paper. The results show that the onset position characterized by the Grashof number depends on the Prandtl number, the Reynolds number, the wave number, the Hall parameter, the ion‐slip parameter, and the Hartmann number.
Findings
The flow becomes more stable as the magnetic field increases. However, the destabilizing effect is found on the flow when the Hall and ion‐slip currents are presented.
Research limitations/implications
The standard method of linear stability model is applied, with terms higher than first order in disturbance quantities being neglected.
Practical implications
The problem of MHD natural convection flow with Hall and ion‐slip currents has many important engineering applications, e.g. power generators, Hall accelerators and flows in channels and ducts.
Originality/value
This study is to check the validity of the assumptions that the conditions of Hall and ion‐slip currents can be ignored.

Abstract
An organization is broadly defined to be a formally co‐ordinated effort by groups of individuals to realize specific goals. A university, as an organization, can be distinguished from a wide range of business organizations and government agencies, both by the manner of co‐ordination and the goals of profession. Reviews some characteristics of university academic and administrative organizations in both Australia and China. Includes a comparative examination of supervising organs above the university; governing bodies within the university; teaching organizations of the university between Australia and China, and the classification of China′s universities.

Abstract
We propose a framework of constrained agency grounded in the actors’ resources and motivations within their structurally constrained context. Structural positions influence the resources available to actors and color the motivations that shape their actions. Resources equip actors to exert agency, while motivations propel them to do so. We derive a typology of network actions and illustrate how the form of constrained agency through which a particular network action is taken can affect actors’ ensuing structural positions and the nature of the constraints they subsequently face. Our conceptualization of constrained agency identifies new sources of endogenous change in network structure.
